Man

Man in the TV series

Man, (Humans, Homo sapiens), referred to as "He", are a species who travel by horse and hrududu (cars). They are considered Elil (enemies) by most of the rabbits, with many considering Man to be the most dangerous of them all.

Characteristics[]

Man burns white sticks in their mouths for enjoyment. Man hunts, and kill other Elil and rabbits with their Thundersticks (Which in Man's language translates to "Guns").

He also has the unique ability to tame other Elil, like the cat and the dog, and make them loyal servants. Most rabbits wonder how He accomplished such a task. Every other being (Elil too) fear the latter, and try to keep themselves away from them.

They are notable for destroying the Sandleford Warren as part of a construction project, which ends up killing nearly all of the warren's rabbits. Man is evil in the novel, but a few ones, like Lucy, will try to help and take care of the rabbits. While escaping Nuthanger Farm, Hazel becomes shot by a farmer.

Despite the generally feared nature of Man's presence among the rabbits, there is one tale told by El-ahrairah where He is honored. There was a time many years ago when a great flood killed almost all life in the world, but He built a hutch which rose above those great waters, and He took every type of animal he could find, ensuring their survival until the great deluge ended.

Some rabbits such as Cowslip and Buttercup live close to Him and eat his produce.
