"Goodbye everyone... thank you."
— Primrose leaving the ruins of Redstone

Primrose is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Fiver) in the Watership Down television series. She becomes Hazel's mate and once lived in Redstone Warren prior to being enslaved by Efrafa. She is also the mother of her and Hazel's kittens, Snowdrop, Mallow, Periwinkle and Gilia.

She replaces Hazel's mate, Hyzenthlay, from the original novel. However, there is a possibility the two are the same character, but she was simply re-named, potentially because it would have been harder for children to remember and pronounce "Hyzenthlay," as well as make merchandising harder.

TV series[]

Primrose lived at Redstone and, along with Blackavar, was captive in Efrafa; until their rescue by the Watership Down rabbits. Primrose is very supportive of Hazel, who becomes her mate, and is also a dedicated mother to her three children, Snowdrop, Mallow, and Gilia. She and Campion also have a strong bond; due to being saved by him multiple times back in Efrafa.

In Efrafa, Primrose showed a rebellious and stubborn attitude toward Vervain, who bullied and tormented her at every given opportunity by constantly disobeying him and ignoring his snide bullying; Vervain disliked this and told Campion how he wanted to make her fear him. Despite Primrose's deep hatred for Vervain, she, Fiver, Holly, and Broom saved his life when he was caught in some wire, although in the beginning, she protested the idea of helping the rabbit "that made her life miserable." Later she hates herself for letting him go when she finds out he formed an alliance out of fear with Woundwort.

In "The Vision," Primrose wishes to see her original warren and goes to check out its status despite Fiver's warning the warren is gone. After she visits it, she decides to stick with Hazel's group, and the two openly express their love for each other.

In "Darkhaven", Primrose and Blackberry go to Redstone Warren's ruins to find Woundwort and is sad by seeing it in ruins, Blackberry comforts her and they continue on with their search for Woundwort.

In "The Spy", Primrose is healing Spartina after she 'fell from the sky', Unaware she is a spy from Darkhaven and says how Blackberry is better at herbs than she is before leaving, and is seen later calling her kits, Snowdrop, Mallow and Gilla to meet Spartina after showing her the view from the down.
