"So after they had swum the river, El-ahrairah led his people on in the dark, through a wild, lonely place. Some of them were afraid, but he knew the way and in the morning he brought them safely to some green fields, very beautiful, with good, sweet grass. And here they found a warren; a warren that was bewitched."
— Vilthuril telling a story to her litter

Vilthuril is a doe born in Efrafa who is liberated by Bigwig and becomes Fiver's mate some time after her escape. She is one of the two does that gives birth to litters (the other being Hyzenthlay to Hazel's litter) after the final conflict with Efrafa.

She does not appear in either the film or the TV series, but she appears in the miniseries as an unnamed doe that Fiver meets at silflay.

Personality[]

Vilthuril is quite understanding of Fiver's personal burdens.

In Tales from Watership Down, it is stated that she is also a prophet of a sort and the other rabbits are happy to leave her and Fiver in their mystic world as long as they come out to beat rabbits like Vervain.

It is said that of the does who had escaped with him from Efrafa, Vilthuril always seemed to Bigwig the most strange and enigmatic, the hardest to understand. She was not unfriendly or standoffish, but on good terms with every rabbit in the warren and was often ready enough for a chat about things such as the weather, the grass, horses and uncontroversial matters. She was a good mother and devoted to her mate Fiver.

Fiver and Vilthuril

Vilthuril meets Fiver at silflay

Vilthuril is among the does that escape Efrafa, but she isn't given any screen time; except when she meets Fiver during silflay. They are both sniffing through the ground, before ending up face-to-face. She would later become his mate (off-screen) though it is unknown if they ended up having any kits.
